It is a fascinating look at what Bartok was trying to preserve and what the villages he collected in are like now. Also some more recent footage of local villagers singing folk songs.

In this second part folk song collecting is heard from the past to the present day, including how he used some of the ideas from collecting folk music in his 6th String Quartet. It is a fascinating look at what Bartok was trying to preserve and what the villages he collected in are like now. Also some more recent footage of local villagers singing and playing (on Hurdy Gurdy for example) folk songs.

In this forth part folk song collecting is heard from the past to the present day, including reference to his Cantata Profana with an extended extract from the last section of the work. A funeral song is heard from a mountain region and the traditions associated with this. It is a fascinating look at what Bartok was trying to preserve and what the villages he collected in are like now. Also some more recent footage of local villagers singing and playing folk songs.
